We began to renovate the kura, a traditional Japanese storehouse, in our garden last year, and removed the rotten floor materials and the lumber. We are making a new floor covering half of the space now, but this cold temperature is delaying our plan...
The purpose of the renovation is to create a new workspace and an interaction space. We are planning to make a kind of craft hub, where anyone can visit and share what they are thinking about art, crafts, and their own works. I believe that exchanging views is one of the important processes in doing good work. It's very beneficial to hear other opinions and share thoughts to advance our works. I think that crafts are like that.
Although there is a definition of "craft" in the dictionary or on the internet, like Wikipedia, I find that 'craft' actually has a wide range of meanings. I've heard various definitions of 'craft' so far, so I'd say there are as many definitions of 'craft' as there are people. I'm always considering what craft is, yet I haven't grasped its true meaning.
The 'craft' I consider is the work and the process carefully made from natural materials by humans, which reflects creators' ways of living.
We want to talk to you about these kinds of things. Can you tell us your thoughts on crafts? Conversation has the power to motivate and encourage us, allowing us to feel positive about our works. Additionally, it can also provide us with critical viewpoints on them.
We are excited about the upcoming new craft space.
